Stern Structural Arithmetic I: An Introduction with Margaret Stern DVD
We have created this video for teachers and parents to provide a greater sense of how to teach children with the Stern Structural Arithmetic Materials. The Structural Arithmetic approach is a developmental, multi-sensory method that teaches children the foundation of mathematics, helping them to see the patterns that create number sense. Margaret Stern, the instructor, provides an overview of the method and teaches the fundamentals of using the manipulatives for Set A: the early concepts of numbers, what they mean, how they relate to one another and to quantity, odd and even numbers, the combinations making ten (addition and subtraction). Margaret will demonstrate some of the games that children find so enjoyable and help them to learn the underlying mathematical concepts relatively effortlessly. More activities and games are described in the Teachers' Guides to Set A.
